Your basic goal is to have your website found by as many searchers as possible. When you venture into online marketing, there are two major tactics. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and pay per click advertising (PPC). SEO is basically getting your website noticed and ranked by major search engines so you will be discovered. PPC is a method that is favored by many web marketers because it guarantees immediate results in a matter of seconds. The goal of PPC search engine marketing is to attract targeted traffic to your website if this is used correctly.

What is PPC Marketing?

PPC is the placement of an ad on a search engine using specified keywords or phrases. You pay the bid amount whenever a visitor checks out your webpage. The term pay per click derives from visitors clicking on your ads in order for you to generate income by online marketing.

What is a PPC Ad?

A PPC ad consists of a heading, short summary and the landing page you selected. Some PPC search engines strictly monitor and control the title and description used in your ad, while others are open to the type of ad that you place online. Once you have designed your PPC ad, decide on the amount that you are willing to bid and place your application with the PPC search engine and your ad will appear in minutes. Some PPC search engines may take a couple of days for your ad to appear.

The most important considerations to keep in mind are putting together a PPC design and plan on the amount you want to spend and keywords are very important in targeting an audience. The larger PPC search engines like Google, Yahoo! and Bing are more expensive because they have the widest coverage. The costs for bidding on their keywords may be expensive, so try a smaller niche of keywords that are ranked low for PPC search engines for a better chance of being found at a lower cost.

Yahoo! and Bing Search Marketing offers a free search tool that provides you with a variety of keywords, but also offers a tool for price bidding. Try keyword tool like for Yahoo! and Bing. This tool helps you decide how many keywords you should use for your campaign.

This free tool gives you a great rough guide and lets you include accurate research. The word combination is the same, for example “cheap books” and “books cheap” come up as the same. Choose your keywords wisely and make sure you are focused and targeting the correct market. Just because a keyword has the most searches, does not mean it will be profitable.

An example of this is the keyword “batteries” which might have a large number of searches, but the word “batteries are too general. If you choose “buy rechargeable AA batteries”, a sale will more likely be the result.

If you are just starting out, don’t target the keywords with the highest number of searches, because this will cost you more money and probably not generate a sale. Choose keywords that are more likely to be on the bottom of the list for profit.
